Are you in Tokyo this weekend? Then don’t miss t Are you in Tokyo this weekend? Then don’t miss the Setagaya Plum Blossom Festival at Hanegi Park! 🌸

We went last year a bit early and still had the best time wandering around 🥹 We did a little hanami with a plum-flavored melonpan 🥐 and some sake 🍶 honestly the perfect combo while enjoying the pink and white blossoms. And brought my Hachiware which is looking all cute between all that pink ✨

📆 The matsuri runs from February 7th to March 1st, and it’s a lovely way to enjoy the very first signs of spring.

🌸 With around 650 plum trees, today it’s already looking beautiful - as of February 4th, 488 trees were in bloom!

Mostly on weekends, you’ll also find seasonal snacks, themed treats, and live performances, so even if everything isn’t in full bloom yet, there’s plenty to enjoy.

Will you try to go? 😍

One of the most unique shrines in Japan ⛩️ Tuc One of the most unique shrines in Japan ⛩️
Tucked away in Arita, a town known as the birthplace of Japanese pottery, Tōzan (Sueyama) Shrine (陶山神社, literally “ceramic mountain shrine”) is truly one of a kind!

We came here during low season and it was such an amazing day with no crowds and the shrine all for ourselves 🥹

What makes it so special is its porcelain torii gate, crafted from beautiful Arita-yaki instead of the usual wood or stone. This deep connection to local craftsmanship runs through the entire shrine, from porcelain guardian statues to delicate ceramic details throughout the grounds. I even picked up a porcelain omamori, which feels like a tiny work of art 🤍

✨ Interesting fact: the porcelain torii was built in 1888 and was officially designated a Tangible Cultural Property on April 28, 2000!

🚶 Getting there
The shrine is just a short walk from Kami-Arita Station on the JR Sasebo Line. If you’re visiting by car, there’s also a small free parking lot near the entrance.

Will you add this to your bucket list?

Ampharos in Nagasaki ⚡️ I went on my next Pokémon hunt around Nagasaki and it turned into one of the most fun!

🔎 I searched for Ampharos Pokéfuta — there are 10 across Nagasaki prefecture, and I managed to spot 4 of them
🚋 Rode the Ampharos tram through the city
🏟️ Stopped by Nagasaki Stadium to say hi to him
🍰 Tried Ampharos-themed castella and dorayaki (too cute to eat!)
🛍️ And picked up some exclusive local goods
🥤 Found themed vending machines

💡 Why Ampharos?
Nagasaki has always been a port city, connecting Japan with the rest of the world. Back in the day, lighthouses were super important to guide ships safely to shore, and Ampharos, with its glowing tail, looks just like one! ✨ That’s why it was chosen as Nagasaki’s Pokémon ambassador, representing light, guidance, and travel ⚡️

Ampharos is one of my all-time favorite Pokémon, especially in its Mega Evolution, basically carries me through every battle! 💛

Will you go on a Pokéhunt too? 👀

A brand new Lapras Park opened in Japan 💙 Lapra A brand new Lapras Park opened in Japan 💙 Lapras is easily in my top 5 favorite Pokémon, so I had to visit when this park opened at the end of last year!

📍 Moririn Kasenuma Park, Rifu
The playground is inspired not only by Lapras, but also by other water and ice-type Pokémon, which is such a fun detail! And there’s also a brand-new Pokéfuta installed here ✨

💧 Why Lapras?
Back in July 2019, Lapras was officially appointed as the region’s Pokémon Ambassador to help promote tourism and celebrate its beautiful coastline. After being deeply affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, Lapras’ calm, sea-loving nature became a symbol of resilience and hope 🫶🏻

You can actually spot Lapras all around Miyagi, from themed pedal boats and special events to adorable manhole covers 💙 After the park, we even went hunting for another Pokéfuta nearby!

Would you add this park to your Pokémon travel list? 🥹

These are real bus stops in Japan… and yes, they These are real bus stops in Japan… and yes, they’re shaped like fruits! 🍉

Along the coast of Konagai in Nagasaki, you’ll find these 16 colorful fruit-shaped, functional bus stops. They were created for the Journey Exposition Nagasaki 1990 as a regional revitalization project, and fun fact: their design was inspired by Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage! ✨

These are the fruit designs you can find:
🍈 Melon
🍓 Strawberry
🍉 Watermelon
🍅 Tomato
🍊 Mikan (mandarin orange) + orange

📍 Location: Konagai, Isahaya City, Nagasaki (Route 207). It’s called Tokimeki Fruits Basutei Dori, aka Fruit-Shaped Bus Stop Avenue 💛

🚗 Tip: Renting a car makes visiting much easier and lets you explore the coast as buses run about once per hour.
⚠️ The bus stops are next to a busy road, so please be careful when taking photos and only use designated parking spots.

Would you stop here on a Kyushu road trip? 👀✨

Zao’s famous “Snow Monsters” (Juhyō) are on Zao’s famous “Snow Monsters” (Juhyō) are one of the coolest winter sights in Japan! Trees completely covered in snow and ice, shaped by strong winds and freezing temperatures at high altitude ⛄️

You can spot them in Zao Onsen, Yamagata, from late December to early March, with February usually being the best time. When we visited, it was around –10°C and very foggy at the top — taking photos was a real challenge, but the experience itself was still so worth it 🥶

🚆 How to get there
From Yamagata Station (around 3 hours from Tokyo), hop on a bus to Zao Onsen (about 40 minutes, ¥1,000 one way).
Once there, take the Zao Ropeway in two parts:
– Zao Sanroku Station → Juhyo Kogen Station
– Juhyo Kogen Station → Jizo Sancho Station (this is where the Snow Monsters really show off!)
🎟 Ropeway round trip: ¥3,500 per person

❄️ Good to know
– Best season: February, when they’re at their biggest
– Night illuminations: Late January to February, super atmospheric ✨
– Bundle up: It gets seriously cold and windy, so proper winter gear is a must!

Would you add this icy wonderland to your Japan winter list? ☃️

Narai-juku is one of the best-preserved post towns Narai-juku is one of the best-preserved post towns along the historic Nakasendō, the old highway that once linked Tokyo (then Edo) with Kyoto during the Edo period 🏯⛩️ Stepping into town really feels like traveling back in time!

Back in the day, it was the richest post town in the Kiso Valley and earned the nickname “Narai of a Thousand Houses” thanks to its long, thriving streets. Even now, that historic atmosphere is still very much alive 🥹

We stopped by the tourist information center and ended up chatting with the staff, who told us we visited at the perfect moment — even with the snow falling ❄️ Apparently, during busy seasons it gets so packed it feels more like Shibuya Crossing than a quiet mountain town 😂

🚉 Getting there:
– From Matsumoto: about 50 minutes on the JR Chūō Line (local train) to Narai Station.
– From Tokyo: take the JR Chūō Line via Shiojiri on a Limited Express (around 2.5–3 hours total) to Narai Station.

🗺️ If you’re traveling through Nagano or craving some classic, old-Japan scenery, Narai-juku is a must!

Ebara Shrine (荏原神社) is already blooming, a Ebara Shrine (荏原神社) is already blooming, and it feels like an early glimpse of spring in Tokyo 🌸 Last year I caught these lovely mejiro (Japanese white-eyes) hopping between the kanhi-zakura! The rich pink cherry blossoms paired with these tiny birds is such a beautiful sight — no wonder so many locals come with their cameras to capture the perfect moment of them sipping nectar 🥹

📸 Photos taken using an @omsystem_generation OM-D E-M10 Mark II + M.Zuiko 17mm F1.8 + M.Zuiko 45mm F1.8.

📍 Ebara Shrine (荏原神社), Shinagawa, Tokyo
🌸 Kanhi-zakura bloom: end of January to mid February
🐦 Best time to see mejiro: early mornings or quieter weekdays
🚆 Access: 5 min walk from Shimbamba Station (Keikyū Line) or 10 min walk from Tennozu Isle Station (Tokyo Monorail)
