Looking for the perfect free Japan souvenir? Try s Looking for the perfect free Japan souvenir? Try stamp hunting! ✨ It’s a unique and interactive way to document your travels, perfect for anyone who enjoys journaling 📓

Japan’s stamp collecting tradition started in 1931 at a train station in Fukui, known as “eki sutanpu” (駅スタンプ), and the aim was to promote local tourism! 🚉 Today, you can find beautifully designed, location-specific stamps at:

🚂 Train stations
⛩️ Tourist Attractions and public buildings: Temples, shrines, museums, city halls, tourism offices and iconic landmarks often have their own unique stamps.
🛍️ Shops: Some specialty stores offer cute stamps as souvenirs such as Chiikawa Land or Jump Shops!
🚗 Roadside Stations (道の駅): If you travel by car, there are rest stops across Japan that sometimes have regional stamps to commemorate your stop 🚙
🏞️ Parks & Theme Parks: Don’t forget to check out nature spots, amusement parks, and seasonal events, they often have their own limited-edition stamps!
🎁 Stamp Rally: there are some activities such as the Pokémon Train in Ichinoseki that offer stamp rallies. For example, in this case, the train will make a few stops and you’ll be able to collect different stamps on each one ⚡️ And if you get them all, you’ll get a present! There are also some initiatives like this around the JR lines.

📝 All you need is:
✔️A notebook or stamp book (I love using @travelers_factory!)
✔️ A small ink pad (some places don’t have one!)
✔️ Research ahead of time to map out where you can find stamps as some are only available for a limited time or require a bit of walking.

Will you go stamp hunting on your next trip to Japan? 😍

You’ll need an Area Timed Entry Ticket — here are your options:

Have you come across a Poké Lid in Japan yet? 👀✨ These vibrant Pokémon-themed manhole covers are scattered all over the country, from cities to small towns!

Known as “Pokéfuta” in Japanese, these covers are part of the official Poké Lid project launched in 2018 by The Pokémon Company in partnership with local governments. The initiative, called Pokémon Local Acts, aims to attract visitors to lesser-known regions through charming, location-specific designs featuring Pokémon that match the spirit or landscape of each area 😍

The very first Poké Lids were the Eevee ones installed in Ibusuki (Kagoshima Prefecture) and since then, the project has expanded to 39 prefectures (and counting!), with 394 unique designs 😱 from Kyushu to Hokkaido.

🗺 How to find them? Visit the official Poké Lids site or search “Poké Lids Japan” to explore an interactive map with every location.

📍Lids featured in this post: Ibusuki, Kagawa, Kyoto, Yokohama, Fukushima, Miyagi, Iwate, Okinawa, Shizuoka & Okayama.
